16.06.2009 - Just a quick update
|
Hey guys, I just wanted to give you a quick update on things. I've just uploaded v6.60b and I've been very busy working on the bot.
I'm making lots of progress and I'm hoping that within 1-2 weeks we'll be able to play on Northrend again. However making it possible that people from both Eurobattle and Northrend can play in one game might cause me additional troubles, so we might be looking at 2-4 weeks of development time.
Either way we'll be on Northrend again soon. So stay tuned.

21.04.2009 - Moving Servers
|
Hey guys, we are moving servers to Eurobattle. Their website is www.eurobattle.net, you will find all the information you need to be able to log onto their servers.
I need some sleep now, so the bot will not be working midday today as I ran into some problems converting in between the servers.
The bot will hopefully be online tonight and host games on Eurobattle, channel dotarank.

18.04.2009 - New Website

We are currently looking for two very skilled people to work on the design for our new website.
We have a flash template which needs modifying to fit DotArank. We are looking for two different persons with a different area of expertise.
We need one person with excellent flash knowledge (the template was created with Flash MX 2004) to modify the flash template and add cool gadgets.
We need one person with excellent photoshop skills and CSS knowledge to create graphics for the new website and possible future banners and logos.

18.04.2009 - The bot

I should've put a news up sooner. Blizzard introduced the Warden to bnet 4 days ago. The bot has been offline for a few days, I bought it back online today.
The bot does not have a Warden patch yet, but you can still play games. You need to join the games very quickly after they were hosted because the bot keeps getting kicked out by the Warden.
Very talented people are currently working on a fix for the Warden and as soon as it is out I will update the bot. So for now the situation is a bit messy with the bot constantly disconnecting.
I will keep you updated.

08.04.2009 - Custom Titles
|
The community addition I talked about yesterday is, as some of you have already found out, a system for custom titles.
A title is displayed by the !whois command, I will have it displayed on the new forum aswell.
lol_sex was the first one who found out and he's been given the title 'Sherlock Holmes'. Other custom titles will be earnable through various community events that are coming up in the future so stay tuned.

07.04.2009 - First Community Addition

As a foreword I would like to mention a couple of things. The afk buster system has been improved a little and the time has been upped from 5min to 15min that you can stay afk in the channel.
I fixed the bug with the insanely high gamecount when the bot gets floodbanned. Your afk timer resets if a game starts that you were signed for, so you don't get kicked immediately when the game you signed for gets hosted.
I have also done some minor improvements to make the bot lag a little less. Unfortunately it will still have spikes until I can get a new server, which will hopefully only take about two weeks.
Back on topic. We have our first community addition. I'm not going to say yet what it is, it is for you to find out and the first one who finds out will get a small reward.
I made a secret little fun addition, a community element to the bot. The winner will be the first one to send me a PM describing what the new addition is all about.
I will give you a hint. Currently three players are involved: stereosushi, A_BIT_SOBER and Murphyman. They have each gotten some attention in their own special way. But what could this mean?

04.04.2009 - DotArank Moves

Hey guys, I've already edited to forum post and this is just a reminder that the last news was posted on April 1st.
I was asked to put this up, because some people fell quite badly for my lil' April Fool :-)
Anyway, back on-topic. The bot has now moved officially to the clan dr channel. Currently there is a spam bot announcing it in the dotarank channel.
This is due to the many afk'ers in the channel lately. We have anticipated that this moment would come some time, I just didn't expect it to happen that quickly.
With the move the bot has also been equipped with an AFK Buster! So watch out. If you're not signed for a game or haven't written a message for 5min you will be kicked out of the channel.
Everything has been said. This will solve the problem with having idle players clogging up the channel.

01.04.2009 - DotArank Shutdown

Hey guys, it is with great regret that I have to inform you that I cannot work on DotArank any longer.
I just recieved a phone call from University. I was expelled because I didn't attend any lectures or tutorials this semester ...
When I told my mother she was ... well not quite a happy person as you might imagine. I'm now on my own financially since I don't get a student loan anymore and I'm not being financed by anyone. Unfortunately I will have to reconsider my priorities and find a job. I already cancelled the payment of the server and it will run out in a week or so.
I enjoyed this a lot, and it's so hard to say goodbye. It doesn't even feel real at this moment. Anyway I made a little something to show you guys how much I appreciated it and I hope you can find the time to have a look.

31.03.2009 - Good News

I managed to find the bug in the Automatic Scoring System. All your ranks are now recalculated after every game.
Unfortunately there are also some bad news and as people noticed, we have extreme server problems last night.
This had to do with one of the companies the current server provider works with, and I can't do anything to fix it
So I'm looking for a new provider once again *sigh*, but we're going to get server support and I will say more about that soon.
We will also change forums soon. I have decided that we will change from SMF to phpBB3. This should happen within a few weeks, so stay tuned.

The bot is now back online, I finally managed to make everything work with the new 1.23 patch.

15.03.2009 - Bot Commands

All bot commands are now displayed under the new "Bot Commands" tab.
The website is dynamically generated and shows you all the info about the commands that you have access to.
You can also get there by clicking on the news title.

I've just finished the Automatic Ranking System. All your games are now ranked automatically.
Your forum profile is also updated straight away when you register and confirm a new bnet account.

26.02.2009 - Ranks on the Profile page

I've just updated the profile pages on the forums. The profile page now properly lists the accounts of the new system.
However it only displays your bnet account if you played atleast one game with it, any zero-game accounts will not be displayed.
Also do keep in mind that ranks are not updated automatically.
I'm working on that.

I've just finished installing the database and the bot on the new server. The bot is currently running on. You should not experience any lags or spikes at all anymore.

Hey guys,
first of all I wanted to apologize for not putting up any news for such a long time.
Now the bright side of this announcement: I've made a detailed post about the upcoming changes and given you insight on the development status of the new bot version.
Please read through the post (click on the news title to get there) and then state your personal opinion in the discussion topic. (hint: the link can be found in the news post, so check it out ;-))
I'm guessing that's everything for now. The current bot will move on to the new server as soon as it is ready. That should be at the end of this week.

Hey guys,
Happy new year to everyone. I hope you enjoy the night no matter how you spend it.
I'm off soon so I'm making it quick. As some might've noticed, I released two hotfixes over the past two days.
Unforunately the first hotfix didn't do much. The second one removed a lot of functions, but atleast now the bot is stable and you should not see any gamecrashes.
I apologize that you won't be able to see ranks for a short period of time, but regard this as my new year present to the community. Nomore crashes for now. I'll say it again: happy new year and enjoy your games.

Hey guys,
Happy Xmas to everyone out there. It's been two weeks since DotArank 3.0 went into public beta and there are almost 700 scored games as of right now.
This wouldn't have been possible without the tremendous support of our beloved GMs and of course all of you guys. I will take care of new GM applications after I've updated the bot, which will happen in a few days.
Don't worry, I didn't forget about it. I also want to announce that Khayne is helping me on the bot development and his help has greatly accelerated the release of the update.

06.12.2008 - First 100 Games on DotArank 3.0

You won't believe it, we've passed the mark of the first 100 games today! 3 days after going public with the new system and it is still in Beta.
Well 'Beta' it works perfectly fine, but we're adding exciting new features on a daily basis! Also as I am writing this news there are 2 games being played.
So get over here and hang out in the dotarank channel on Northrend. See you there. ;-)

Hello everyone,
the new version of DotArank is coming out. Many things are changing and we are currently in open beta. I am finalizing work on the new version and it is currently a 100% playable.

Thank you everyone for your endurance and your passion for DotArank. I can't say how much I appreciate everything you guys have put into this by reporting bugs and cheaters.
